Pollinators, especially bees, make up an important part of Ireland’s biodiversity. Irish pollinators are in decline, with one third of Ireland’s 98 bee species threatened by extinction in Ireland. As a result of this we decided to create our own local 10-point Portrunny Pollinator Plan for the area of SMART (smart, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound) objectives which we are implementing during our Tidy Towns work for 2018.
As we delve more and more into the Tidy Towns we are continuously looking for advice and guidance into ensuring our bees can survive and thrive. We found the information on the Biodiversity Ireland website in relation to the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan 2015-2010, a great resource of information. From this information, we have been trying to incorporate pollinator friendly initiatives into our work plan.
