Portrun Development Association have received funding from The Community Foundation of Ireland, with this funding the Association are working towards putting an Aquatic Bio Diversity Action Plan in place. They have engaged an Ecologist who for the past number of months has been examining both the shoreline and the underwater living environment around Portrunny, she will provide a report which assesses the extent and condition of living flora/fauna and underwater species, findings will be mapped with defining actions put in place to enhance bio diversity.

Habitats will be identified, the ecologist will use informed methods of identifying species populations, quality and potential threats. The process will focus on both underwater and dry area ecosystems and their interdependence. The plan will act to identify current practices that are adversely affecting the ecosystem, it will identify actions that can be undertaken by local users and the wider community.

The association are currently engaging with local schools and had hoped to hold an open invitation event at the bay in Portrunny, this event would act as an information and interactive workshop, however because of the current national Covid pandemic this cannot take place, instead the group will be inviting online participation. In the coming weeks more information and online interaction opportunities will be available on the following platforms-www.portrun.ie/Portrun Roscommon Facebook page.

We invite you to participate.

Thank you.
